A. MMTC’s Precious Metals division is one of the trading divisions of MMTC Ltd.,India. Dealing mainly with import and export of gold & silver, platinum, palladium, gems, rough diamonds and other semi precious colour stones. This division is running Duty free jewellery showrooms at Mumbai, Chennai and Thiruvananthpuram International Airports. Besides this division has also launched Silverware products with Brand name - 'Sanchi'. The product range is known for its purity, design and high quality.

Q. What is hallmarking ?
A. Hallmarking is the accurate determination an official recording of the proportionate content of precious metal in gold ware. Hallmarking is a process in which a series of marks are applied on gold or any other precious metal jewellery. These marks indicate that the jewellery has been evaluated and certified at an official assay office and that confirms to national/ international standards of fineness of purity.
A hallmark is a stamped mark on gold/ silver objects guaranteeing that the metal confirms to certain legal quality standards laid down.
Q. What is assaying ?
A. Assaying is a test carried out to determine the fineness, purity or consistency of various metals including precious metals.
Q. How is MMTC involved in assaying/ hallmarking ?
A. Bureau of Indian Standards has granted recognition to MMTC as an Assaying and hallmarking center under BIS hallmarking scheme for gold jewellery.
Q. What are the charges for assaying/ hallmarking ?
A. The charges are nominal, depending on the item under consideration.
Q. What is 'SANCHI' ?
A. Sanchi is MMTC's brand of Silverware specifically introduced for quality conscious consumer. The silverware is pure in content and the designs are simple yet elegant and appeal to the tastes of discerning consumer. |

A. Preference is for cash sales, however, at our showrooms payment through credit cards / DDs are also accepted.
Q. What is a medallion and what are its denominations ?
A. Medallions are basically coins of gold and silver with artistic imprints or embossing. Medallions are used as souvenir gift items or collectibles since time immemorial. In India MMTC is the only company who is having in-house facility of both manufacturing and assaying of medallions in the organized sector. Medallions are available of both gold and Silver variety in various weight such as 2gm, 5gm, 10gm and 20gm biscuits. Both silver and gold medallions are of purity/ fineness 0.999.

Ans. The criterion for empanelment - supplier should be international supplier of repute, A member of London bullion Market Association, can supply bullion on consignment basis Contract made between MMTC Corporate office and supplier on long term basis. However, Imports is done by Regional offices(R.O.s)
